Sir,

FOREIGN OFFICE.

S.W.1.

RECE. VED

12th June, 1937.

14 JUN 1937 C. O. REGY

I am directed by Mr. Secretary Eden to transmit to

you herewith copy of two telegrams which he has received

from His Majesty's Ambassador in China on the subject of

certain proposals reported in previous telegrams as having

been made by Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek for co-operation

between the Chinese Government and His Majesty's Government

in the United Kingdom.

2.

Mr. Eden is inclined to agree with the Military

Attaché that there may be a political motive behind the

proposals, and that the suggestion reported in telegram No. 213

with regard to the stationing of a Chinese officer at Singapore

is open to objection. He will be glad to learn in due course

the views of the Secretary of State for the Colonies in the

matter.

3. A copy of this letter is being sent to the War Office,

Admiralty and Air Ministry.

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Cw. Orde

The Under-Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.
